There are three types of cases that may be filed in the Tribal Court. They include the following:
- Civil matters arising within the jurisdiction of the Tribe and which the Tribe or an enrolled member of the Tribe is a party
- Constitutional question cases
- Cases that involve a Tribal code
A civil action begins by filing a paper with the Court called a civil complaint. A civil complaint is a legal document that tells the judge and defendant(s) how and why you believe the defendant(s) violated the law in a way that injured you and what you want the Court to do about it.
